Toroidal Rotation Proles under the Inuence of Fast-ion Losses Due to Toroidal Field Ripple

چکیده
Characteristics of toroidal rotation proles in tokamak plasmas are studied under the inuence of fast-ion losses due to a toroidal eld (TF) ripple by using a one-dimensional multi-uid transport code, TASK/TX. When a neutral beam (NB) is injected into a plasma, a part of fast ions is lost due to the effect of the TF ripple. The radial current then ows inward in the bulk plasma to keep quasi-neutrality and it exerts a torque on the plasma in the direction opposite to the plasma current. A parametric survey of the toroidal rotation driven by this torque is conducted to quantify the sensitivity to various externally-controllable sources such as a co-tangential NBI power. In the case of a larger ripple amplitude, it is observed that the counter-toroidal rotation develops near the periphery of the plasma as an increase in the co-NBI input power while the co-toroidal rotation velocity on the magnetic axis reaches a maximum value at a certain NBI power. This torque can be mitigated by increasing a gas puff rate. An increase in the plasma current also leads to the reduction in the counter rotation induced by ripple.

Fast Ion Loss Diagnostic in ASDEX Upgrade
The confinement of fast particles is of crucial importance for next step fusion devices like ITER. Since fast ion losses might reduce the core heating and, in addition, cause untolerable first wall load, it is important to understand and possibly avoid them. Here, an integrated approach is presented for the analysis of neutral beam injection related fast ion losses in ASDEX Upgrade. It consists...

Experimental observations of driven and intrinsic rotation in tokamak plasmas are reviewed. For momentum sources, there is direct drive from neutral beam injection, lower hybrid and ion cyclotron range of frequencies waves (including mode conversion flow drive), as well as indirect j B × forces from fast ion and electron orbit shifts, and toroidal magnetic field ripple loss. Counteracting rotat...

Small 3D magnetic perturbations have many interesting and useful effects on tokamak and quasi-symmetric stellarator plasmas. Plasma transport equations that include these effects, most notably on diamagnetic-level toroidal plasma rotation, have recently been developed. The 3D magnetic perturbations and their plasma effects can be classified according to their toroidal mode number n. Low n non-r...

Alfvén instabilities induced fast-ion losses have been directly observed for the first time by a newly developed scintillator lost ion probe (SLIP) in the Large Helical Device (LHD). The SLIP can measure the pitch angle and gyro radius of escaped fast ions toward loss region. Neutral beam driven Alfvén Eigenmodes (AEs) are excited under the reactor relevant conditions: the ratio of fast ion (be...

Central toroidal rotation and impurity transport coe cients have been determined in Alcator C-Mod Ohmic High Con nement Mode (H-mode) plasmas from observations of x-ray emission following impurity injection. Rotation velocities up to 3 10 m/s in the co-current direction have been observed in the center of the best Ohmic H-mode plasmas. Purely Ohmic H-mode plasmas display many characteristics si...
